KS3 Homework Approach

Information regarding homework for Key Stage 3 learners at Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School

At Ysgol Harri Tudur, we are committed to ensuring that all learners engage fully with theirKS3HW education. One area we have been reviewing is homework engagement at Key Stage 3. To encourage more learners to complete their work and benefit from structured practice, we are introducing a new approach to homework.

From 15th September, Year 7 & 8 learners will complete:

  • One literacy-based homework per week (set by English).
  • One numeracy-based homework per week (set by Maths).

Year 9 Learners will have an additional task, this is to build study habits ahead of their GCSEs. Their homework tasks will follow the cycle displayed in the table on the right throughout the year:

Why Are We Introducing This?

Increasing Engagement: Many learners find multiple subject homework tasks overwhelming. By simplifying the structure, we hope to improve participation and ensure more students complete their work.
Focusing on Key Skills: Strong literacy and numeracy skills are vital for success across all subjects and later life.
Encouraging Quality Over Quantity: A structured, manageable approach to homework allows students to focus on completing tasks to a high standard rather than rushing through multiple assignments.

How Can Parents Support?

  • Encourage regular reading and discussions about books, articles, or real-world topics.
  • Support numeracy in daily life, such as through budgeting, cooking, or problem-solving activities.
  • Help establish a routine for completing homework in a quiet, focused space.

We believe this strategy will have a positive impact on student learning and confidence. If you have any questions, please contact us at: contact@yht.wales.

Many Thanks,

Mr T Crichton
Deputy Headteacher

Parents, Guardians and Carers are kindly reminded that we have a number of learners who suffer with severe food allergies, in particular with allergies to all types of nuts; these learners are usually aware of their condition and should alert others who may put them at risk, by actions such as eating food containing the items near to them. Please respect these requests; the consequence could be the initiation of an anaphylactic attack. Read More…
